An insightful article! I’ve always thought that gender self-identity has a lot to do with cultural and sociological factors. Living in two Chinese diasporas, I felt that the urge to express one’s identity isn’t as apparent as it is in the West. That’s not to say we don’t have gender roles and stereotypes. But there’s not much of an urge to ‘take it to the streets’.
