My mother is a typical tiger mother. It's basically your father in a woman's body. She's not much different: controlling, disrespecting, and condescending. The toxic part about how I was raised in a Chinese household was that I've subconsciously internalized this. Whenever I sense failure is imminent, I don't think I've failed my parents. I think that I've failed myself.
Seeing how I was raised, and how my parents treat me now, I knew that not everyone is cut out to be a parent.
And yes, when people says we're hardworking or smart, a voice in my head says, "But it wasn't worth it."
